Nun fließen auf Tschechischem Boden die Elbe und die Moldau zusammen. Wie wir alle wissen fließt ab dort die Elbe weiter durch Deutschland und mündet bei Hamburg in die Nordsee.
Warum aber heißt der Fluss nicht Moldau? Sie ist der Längere der beiden Flüsse bis zum Zusammenfluss und somit wäre unsere Elbe eigentlich unsere Moldau.
Für Aufklärung wäre ich dankbar...
Verloren gegangen ist auch das Wissen um die Benennung der Flüsse. Bis heute streiten Hydrologen, Kulturwissenschaftler, Namensforscher und Historiker darüber, warum die Aare beim Zusammenfluss mit dem Rhein ihren Namen verliert. Wie die Moldau in Mĕlník hat auch sie mehr Kilometer auf dem Buckel und Wasser im Gepäck. Gleiches gilt für die Warthe und die Oder oder die Havel und die Spree. Doch das hydrologische Argument, so die neueste Forschung, ist nicht das entscheidende. Viel wichtiger ist die Siedlungsgeschichte und die Bedeutung eines Flusslaufs für Handel und Wirtschaft. Vor allem aber wurden die bis heute gängigen Namen der Flüsse in der Antike von der Mündung stromaufwärts vergeben.
